Different Ways of Making Ice

First and foremost, ice occurs naturally in the world - in the Arctic and Antarctic; in the form of glaciers, icebergs, ice sheets and ice caps. We also see it readily when cold winter weather bears down and brings with it a lowering of air temperature and freezing of the ground, trees, leaves, etc. The greatest ice maker of all is therefore the earth itself.

However, because we have found ice useful for food and drink applications and for use in sport, numerous ways of making ice have been developed over the years. Indeed the art of ice making goes back centuries if not thousands of years - that's how useful ice has been in the daily lives of human beings!

One of the most fashionable, modern ways of making ice is to have a portable ice maker at home so that you can have fresh ice 'on tap' at parties and bbqs. Once your ice is made - whether in cube shapes or nugget shapes - you can either use it 'as is' or crush the ice.

Included in these is a range of machinery known as commercial ice makers
and these produce different types of ice including:

~ ice cubes for drinks ~
~ flake ice for the fishing industry ~
~ block ice for use in hot climates where availability of ice is restricted ~
