commonly understood that the human body can only endure extreme cold
temperatures for a short length of time before it becomes life threatening.
Ice is the ultimate test.
In January 2004, Dutchman Wim Hof set a new world record for full
body contact with ice. Wearing
only his swimming trunks, he stood in an ice filled tube (ice cubes
were used) for 1 hour and 7 minutes. This beat the previous record
- also belonging to Wim Hof - by 56 seconds.
